“NOMINATIONS, RSVP's REQUESTED FOR 2008 'NURSE OF EXCELLENCE'”
Nominations for the “Nurse of Excellence” awards are now being accepted for the fifth annual Fulton / Montgomery Nurses’ Recognition Celebration.
The event is set for May 15, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Perthshire in Amsterdam. The evening will honor professional nurses from Fulton and Montgomery counties with a night out, the chance to hear a well-known local band, and the presentation of 10 “Nurse of Excellence” awards.
RN’s and LPN’s who work in Fulton and Montgomery counties are invited to attend the event, that will celebrate National Nurse’s Week. The evening is free of charge with the exception of a cash bar, and optional raffle prize tickets. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and the evening will round out with dancing and entertainment by the popular band “MedRock,” made up of physicians, and current and former hospital executives.
Nurses from all aspects of healthcare will be honored as nominees and as winners of the “Nurse of Excellence” awards, based on the qualities of excellence in patient care, leadership, empowerment, vision, motivation, innovation and professionalism in the field of nursing. All nurses nominated for the award are recognized, and the ten winners are presented with a framed certificate, lapel pin and other trinkets. Awardees are chosen by a panel of area healthcare professionals.
The celebration is hosted by the staff of Community Health Center, the home health care agency that sends professional nurses and other clinical staff members to the homes of Fulton and Montgomery residents to deliver health care.
Michelle Santabarbara RN, Ancillary Services Supervisor at CHC and organizer of the event, said the celebration is for all nurses who work in Fulton or Montgomery counties. “We are proud to say this is our fifth anniversary, and this year's event will be extra special, starting with a fun theme, 'A Black and White Affair,' as well as great music from MedRock, vendors, raffles, food and of course our 'Nurse of Excellence' awards. It's a well-deserved night out for all the nurses in the region, that we couldn't provide without the many corporate sponsors who make generous donations toward the cost of the event. We are looking forward to saying thank you to all of the men and women who work so hard to care for so many members of our community. "
Santabarbara explained that the event will be themed in black and white, and attendees are asked to wear casual black and white clothing to enhance the mood of the fifth anniversary celebration.
A committee made up of nurses and other staff members at CHC created the event in an effort to honor LPNs and RNs at the home health care agency, and then decided to expand it to include all professional nurses in the two counties.
Professional nurses are asked to RSVP for the celebration by April 25, by calling Community Health Center. Nominations for the “Nurse of Excellence” awards are also due by April 25, and can be made by patients, colleagues or others.
